1br available in bright, spacious apartment 1min walk from Dufferin subway station
Hi! We currently have an opening for new roommate/housemate in our old Toronto home in the bustling Bloordale Village neighbourhood, a 1-minute walk from the Dufferin subway station. Here are some details:
Basic Details
- The house is located at 28... Pauline Ave, approx. 1-2min walk from the Bloor-Duff subway station.- - The house has three apartments: - “2F”: where the available room is, is on the second and third floor (more details below!) - “1F”: the first floor and half the basement (three bedrooms) - Basement: the other half of the basement is a bachelor apartment - Everyone is super friendly, and overall it’s pretty quiet, though we do occasionally have get togethers. - We have a house group chat on Signal, which is super useful for communicating between units. We’re also all pretty close and know each other well, so vibes are great. - We have a front porch and back patio, as well as a big front yard garden (veggies, herbs, and flowers; all available to everyone).
Apartment/Room Details
- 2F is a three bedroom apartment, but I rent two of the rooms so it’s effectively a 2br. - The second floor is the “main” floor, with the kitchen/dining room, living room, full bath, laundry, and the available bedroom. - The third floor is my bedroom and office, as well as a half bath (which is available to anyone to use). - The apartment is actually laid out kind of perfectly, with none of the rooms sharing walls, so there’s a lot of privacy. The available room is in the back of the house, down the hall and around the corner from the living room and kitchen/dining room. It’s also pretty spacious! (Check out the pics below) We also have two fridges, so you’d get your own fridge as well. - The available room is decently big, though I don’t know the exact dimensions; it also has the largest closet in the apartment, though that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s objectively large haha. Oh, Toronto. - The actual workspace of our kitchen is a bit cozy, but we have heaps of pantry space, and because it’s a kitchen/dining room and has a huge bay window it actually feels quite big. I’ve easily cooked for 20+ people in there many times.
Logistical Details
- Rent is $3279/month for the whole apartment; I’m open to negotiating how we divide it. I obviously pay the lion’s share because I have two rooms, but beyond that I’m flexible. - Rent includes everything, even wifi! And we have our own router in the unit and it works great. - Move in date is currently TBD, but I’ll have more details soon. Most likely mid-August to mid-September, but can be finagled a bit if needed.
About Me
- Hiiiii I’m Kit! (they/them) - I’m pretty quiet, though I do enjoy having friends over for dinner or movie nights or game nights, and once or twice a year I like to host an honest to goodness party, though I’m not generally throwing ragers haha. Vibes are always friendly and laid back. - I’m a non-smoker, and I don’t think we currently have any smokers in the house, but we do have an ashtray on the front porch for guests (or more “herbaceous” consumables). - I’m very neat and tidy; I genuinely enjoy cleaning and keep a cleaning calendar (yes, I’m a huge nerd), though I don’t think I’m super anal retentive about it. As long as the person I live with is reasonably tidy and respectful, and helps out a bit with general upkeep, I’m happy as a clam. - I have two dingos (er, cats), littermates Frida and Diego. They’re very friendly and sociable (though Diego can be a bit shy), and love other cats, though their enthusiasm (especially Frida’s) can come on a bit strong. I’m trying to get them used to dogs, but that’s been a bit more of a work in progress. You are very welcome to exclude them entirely from your room if you like. They’re short haired tabbies, and I vacuum at least once a week so fur stays under control. - I’m pretty nerdy, I enjoy reading and games (video and tabletop; I host a biweekly D&D session with a small group of friends), movies, crafting, gardening, cooking, etc. Kinda basic hobbit queer stuff. - I can be a bit of a hermit, but I’d also love to find a roommate I can chill with and watch movies or make dinner or whatever now and again. No pressure of course. 😊 - As far as what I look for in a roommate, the most important things to me are pretty much what I imagine anyone wants: maturity, friendliness, a reaonable degree of flexibility, good communication, generally laid back vibes, etc. If the vibe is right, I’m particularly looking for someone who wants to stay for a bit (1 year+).
Things To Know
Pauline, as we call our house, is a fabulous home imho but it does have… character haha. - The available room has one electrical outlet. We’ve begged and cajoled the landlord to address it but so far we haven’t gotten anywhere. That said, previous tenants who lived in the room have had a computer, AC unit, a tv, several gaming consoles, etc. in there and made it work, so it’s def doable. One of them is also around quite frequently if you’re looking for pointers. - Pauline is an old girl, and a bit shabby in places, but ultimately a solid place to live. I’m currently working with the landlord on a few much needed repairs and updates, but everything works and it’s warm in the winter and nothing leaks, etc. - Also because it’s an old house, on occasion a mouse or two will find its way into the apartment. Fortunately the dingos are real mousers so uninvited guests don’t have time to set up shop, but once in a great while we may see one (I think I’ve seen maybe three or four mice in the four years I’ve lived here). Other than that, though, we’ve had no issues with pests. I think I’ve seen maybe one spider in the whole time I’ve lived here?
Amenities
I may have touched on all of this before, but I’ll include here as well to have it all in one place. - Decent size front porch, comfortably seats about 6-7 for porch hangs - Back patio that comforatbly seats about 10. It can be mosquito-y back there in the summer, but we burn citronella and that seems to help - LARGE garden(s) with heaps of produce all summer and into the fall - All utilities included - Lots of kitchen food storage (pantry, huge spice shelf, two fridges), plus decent kitchen equipment storage if we’re down to be flexible, and also a gas stove - Shed out back, plus a small amount of storage in the apartment itself - Projector in the living room for movie nights
